Summary
A person with a disability who is a French national may receive services from a reception and accommodation service in Wallonia, while maintaining their residence in France.
In this case, the AVIQ, which has jurisdiction over individuals residing in Wallonia, will not be able to intervene in the decision regarding coverage or funding. The Maison Départementale des Personnes Handicapées (MDPH) remains the primary point of contact for the individual and their family
Key points
A cooperation agreement has been concluded between Wallonia and France (see legal references). The purpose of this agreement is:
- to ensure better support and high-quality care for people with disabilities;
- to guarantee the continuity of this support and care;
- to optimize responses to medical and social needs by facilitating the use or sharing of human and material resources;
- to promote the exchange and transfer of knowledge and best practices.
To this end, the AVIQ and the ARS (Regional Health Agency – Hauts-de-France) are working together: they conduct joint audits within departments and promote the sharing of information.
In detail
People with disabilities
The user must contact their local departmental office (MDPH). There is a departmental office (MDPH) in every French department. These offices serve as a one-stop shop for all procedures related to various disability-related matters.
