Take part in a hunt or shooting competition abroad with my weapons

Summary

Are you a hunter and would like to take part in a hunt abroad? Or are you a marksman and are planning to take part in a competition abroad? Do you not have a European firearms pass? Then you will need a temporary transfer permit and prior agreement or a declaration of intent to temporarily export your firearms, spare parts, accessories and ammunition.

Hunters and marksmen living in Wallonia

Conditions
  • Be living in Wallonia.
  • Have a holder's licence (model 4 or 9), a Belgian hunting permit or a marksman's licence.

 

The documents required depend on your situation: whether or not the event is being held within the EU. Please refer to the section that relates to your situation.

For an event within the EU

  • Have a transfer permit and prior agreement, both valid for 12 months.

For an event outside the EU

  • Complete a declaration of intent, valid for the entire duration of the event.
  • Have an invitation or any other document providing the full contact details of the organiser, the location and the dates of the event you wish to take part in (hunt or competition).
  • The maximum number of ammunition cartridges that you may take is fixed as follows:
    • For hunters: Maximum of 800 cartridges.
    • For marksmen: Maximum of 1,200 cartridges.
Procedure

Submit your application

Complete the necessary form(s) and attach the requested documents (see supporting documents). 

  • For an event within the EU
    • Prior agreement application for the transfer of firearms and ammunition
    • Transfer permit application
  • For an event outside the EU:
    • Declaration of intent form

Processing your application

We will assess your application. If it is approved, we will send you the signed documents by mail or email. 

Participation in the event abroad

Upon receipt of the documents, you can take part in your event abroad with your weapon, a spare part, an accessory and/or ammunition.

The processing time is not fixed and may vary; it may take a few weeks in some cases.

Documents à fournir

A copy of your lawful authorisation: 

  • Your Belgian hunting permit.
  • Your marksman's licence issued in Belgium.
  • Your European hunters'/marksman's card
  • Your provincial governor's authorisation.

For an event outside the EU: 

  • Proof of participation in the activity: a document confirming the activity you are taking part in, such as an invitation, registration or invoice.

Option to initiate actions for annulment before the Supreme Administrative Court of Belgium.

The actions must be lodged within 60 days of notification of the decision.
