A birth grant is paid by the family allowance fund of your choice upon the birth of each child eligible for family allowances in the French-speaking region of Wallonia.
The birth grant is also paid upon the birth of a child for whom a certificate of stillbirth has been issued by the registrar, in accordance with Article 80bis of the Civil Code.
How do I apply for a birth grant?
The applicant must submit the birth grant application to the family allowance fund to which they belong, or to the fund of their choice if they do not yet belong to one.
When should you apply for a birth grant?
The birth grant can be applied for:
- starting from the end of the sixth month of pregnancy,
- up to five years after the child’s birth.
Free of charge
Payment will be made no earlier than two months before the expected date of the child's birth.
This date is indicated on the medical certificate that must be attached to the application.
